With a background in Social Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychiatry, Dr. Sluzki has been the director of departments of psychiatry in two general hospitals for a total of 22 years, and Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF and University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is currently a clinical Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.


Dr. Sluzki completed his training in psychoanalysis at the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association, and participated in the development of the Brief Therapy team at MRI (Palo Alto, CA). Over the years, he has provided individual therapy in both the public and private sector, following a narrative oriented approach towards conflict transformation.


Dr. Sluzki has been involved with and participating in the development of the field of couples and family therapy, with a steady presence as a trainer, author, and practitioner. He has authored a dozen books, and over 100 articles and chapters on the subject.

For 4 years, he was a research associate and director of the prestigious Mental Research Institute. For 7 years, he was the editor of Family Process, the first journal in the field of family therapy.

Dr. Sluzki has received several awards from the American Family Therapy Academy and the International Family Therapy Association. He is honorary member of the European Family Therapy Association, and of countless national organizations worldwide. As a respected leader in the field, he is a regular key-note presenter in national and international symposia and congresses.


In addition to his writings on the subject, Dr. Sluzki has ample experience in conducting interventions to mitigate conflicts and crisis within social groups, and resolving turmoil and malaise in organizations.
